what tivo should you get if you are using an hu card?

If you buy it new you don't have to worry because they all come with fully compatible (P4 or P4.5) cards.

is their a hack for the series 2 that make the hu card work or you have to use the p4 cards.

You should use the P4 cards. There might be a hack somewhere but if there is, we don't talk about it here because we don't want to get shut down by DIRECTV(R).

If you would like to experiment with such a hack, your best bet is to develop it yourself and then keep it private.
