My Dsr6000 like many of yours was rebooting like mad. I noticed the right side of the box was very hot compred to the left. Put a fan next to it and it stopped rebooting continuously. COuld this mean that the fan inside the reciever is broken?

Open it up, plug it in, and find out. If the internal fan doesn't rotate it's probably broken, and if it does rotate it might be too weak.
The lusers at AVS seem to like these fans, although they are relatively loud: http://www.directron.com/tf6025.html

Just take the darn cover off and leave it off. All three of my DTivos are set up this way and they never get more than slightly warm to the touch. It also facilitates easy access to my hard drives and allows a direct connection to my Turbonet adapters without cutting holes in the chassis.

That's not a practical solution for many folks. It's noisier, and there are plenty of places to get a lethal shock if someone (like a small kid) gets to poking around inside.

Ya i might have to do just that as a fan next to it is not cutting it. Can you by the torc 10 screwdriver from Home Depot?

Yes.
captain_video: Taking the cover off changes the airflow patterns. Some areas will run warmer and some will run cooler. In particular you can expect the left side of the mainboard to suffer as that is where fresh air is normally sucked in.
