Just a quickie here guys almost done my upgrade. The secondary ide cable in my computer wont fit to the two drives of my tivo. The one in the tivo is frayed and has more flexibility how did you guys do this.
As well i just want to make sure that the A drive in a Dsr6000 is the one closest to the Fan, correct?

If you are using "cable select" for selecting the ide status, then the Master (hda) would be the last one in the chain on the cable. The other one would turn out to be Slave (hdb). Either way, "cable select" or not, it doesn't make any difference where in the drive bay the drive resides... what does matter is what jumper settings you use.

The A drive (i.e. master) should be placed at the end of the IDE cable. You'll need to fabricate an IDE cable to work with a 2-drive setup if your DTivo only has a single drive with a short IDE cable. I use a standard IDE cable, the shorter the better. I think 18" is about the shortest you can get for a two-drive configration but you may find them shorter. What I do is split the cable between the two drive connectors such that ther are groups of two or three conductors together and then split the cable between groups. Carefully insert an Xacto knife or something similar between the molded insulation along each conductor to open up the seam and then just tear it along the seam to separate the conductors. This allows the cable to be far more flexible and allows the two drives to be mounted side by side. I usually tuck the split conductors underneath the drive tray and just fold the excess between the board connector and the first drive connector and lay it on top of the B drive.
