I've received mixed answers to this, however can the GXCEBOT Dtivo support two drives? I see some peole have put 250Gb HDs in their GXCEBOTs, but ive read that you can put two in - yet have yet to find a post where someone has done it.
Also, what is the immediate advantage to two HDs over a single?
Thanks in advance.

I have two Hard Drives in my GXCEBOT.
The advantage, is of course, more space.
Any single drive in a DTivo will ONLY yield 137 gig due to ATA limitations.
Two drives means 137 X 2 or 274 usable gig.

Well - Im going to buy a gxcebot, looks like I can pick one up for $185ish and then slap two 80Gb'ers in there - or possibly two 120s. I plan on running 2.5Xtreme, should be fun! Thanks for the info - im on my way to Tivo heaven ;)
Thanks much

if you are picking it up for $185, be careful. Usually, if an s1 dtivo is that cheap, its usually broken in some way

Interesting - The auction says he 'cant test it' which is obviously a little odd, considering he has 10 of them listed. He does say tho however that it does boot up, and loads the tivo menus and such. Dunno, worth a shot I guess. What should I expect to pay for a s1 dtivo?
Thanks

Can't test it is scammer-speak. Buyer beware.
FYI, I just bought a 3rd DSR6K off ebay, $260. Most are over $300 these days.

Bleh, already bid and set a max. Guess we will see how it goes. In most of these 'dead' tivo units, what is the most common problem? If it fires up and brings you to a Tivo menu what else could be wrong? HD I really dont care about since Im going to throw new HDs in there.
If it boots obviously the main electronics ad power supply work. Hopefully I end up getting my hands on a working one, if not - live and learn.

Well, there is only one thing I can think of if it gets as far as they claim it does... The dreaded "dead tuner" problem. If you search this board, you will find many have had tuner issues, and they are not easily rectified (other than sending the unit out for service).
Hopefully, you won't have this problem.
Good luck

When it comes to buying used DTivos on ebay I wouldn't even consider bidding on one unless the seller guarantees that it works. The only exception would be if any defects are described in detail, such as "Stuck on Powering Up screen", etc. Things like this can be an easy fix. If the seller claims they can't test it then avoid them. All they would have to do is plug it in and see if it boots to the screen where it is attempting to acquire the satellite signal. If it gets that far it should work fine.
