Ok I did a 25xtreme to my harddrive which already had 2.5.2 OS on it. Everything went successful, but when I put it in my reciever I get welcome Powering up screen that does not change. Anyone know what I did wrong? I got the 25xtreme image from tivostuff.com.

it sounds like your jumper setting are not correct on your hardrive. Try making it a master. Hope this helps.

He means make sure your Harddrive is setup to master via the jumper settings on the HD. This is a problem I've had a few times and it has always been the jumper.

If it's a single-drive Tivo it's set as cable select by default. It should still work at the master setting but you may want to try the cable select setting if that doesn't work. You may also want to check the small ribbon cable between the power supply board and the mainboard. If you remove the cable and flip it end for end it sometimes clears out problems such as this.

How do u change this cable select setting on the tivo drive. The way I have it is the tivo a is set to Master on secondary and B to slave and Cd drive to Primary Master.

Elaborate on what you did. So you pulled the tivo drive (you have a single drive unit right?) and you put it in a computer, ran the 25xtreme CD, all went go, pulled the drive and put it back in the Tivo, and now it just sits at the powering up welcome screen?

If that is what you did, double check the connections in the tivo for the harddrive and reboot it a few times. May want to also let it sit there over night, see what happens. If that doesn't work, then do 25xtreme on it again.

you have a single drive unit right?

He indicated his Tivo B drive was installed in the PC as slave so I'd say he has a dula-drive setup. If that's the case then don't set the jumpers to cable select at all. This is only for a default single drive Tivo.

I actualy torched my mother board on my puter I think. When i plugged the power cable into the Hard drive big spark and computer shut off never turned back on. Stupid me. Also i think i ruined one of the drives on the tivo. Pin broke off in the back of the HD, can this be repaired or is the HD toast.
The pin where you plug in IDE cable.

All should be ok I have extended warranty on my computer. As long as they dont find out i wasmessing around with it.

Im thinking of buying a 486 or something to do these types of jobs in the future can u run xtreme on a 486? I would guess all i would need to make sure is that it had a cd rom drive?

See what happens when you let a guy with very little knowledge of this type of stuff attempt this kind of hack. Anyways Im still going to try it again.
