View Full Version : HELP! Extras aren't installing with 2.52

I have followed all instruction to a 't' TWICE... installed Sony Sat T-60 Extreme 2.5 from scratch - hooked up to sat with no LNB's connected, let update database and **** power when acquiring. Installed xupgrade to go to 2.52, and NONE of the following things are installed that should have been:
NO XPLUSZ
NO JOE
NO TIVOWEB
NO TURBONET DRIVERS

We installed the turbonet drivers, the separate xplusz module and it seems to work ok, CAN install Tivoweb and joe i suppose, but why weren't they installed? How can I tell that the 2.5 "took" other than the message stating that it was installing the new software... are there 2 versions of xupdate? Will it hurt to install everything separately?

Also, we used the noppv option, but SOME of the ppv's don't record for more than 5 minutes or so...

HELP!!

What method did you use for installing the 2.5.2 upgrade? If you transferred the files via serial cable did you make them executable after transferring them to the DTivo? The reason I ask this is because this step is missing from the installation instructions and it is assumed that you already know to do this. With all the Linux illiterate people in this forum (myself includd) I can't understand how this step could have been omitted and never corrected in the readme file. To make the file executable you need to type

chmod +x upgrd252.tcl

from bash and then press Enter. If you don't make it executable it will never install. Following the installation of the upgrade it should go through the database rebuilding phase again but it shouldn't take as long as the 2.5Xtreme installation. If you look at the System Information screen under Messages & Setup you will see the software version listed near the top of the page. For 2.5.2 it should read 2.5.2-01-1-001.

ahhhhhhh, maybe it never did install.

Although I didn't use the serial cable, I installed 2.5 via PC using bootable CD, then put hdd in tivo and let it install and build database, then put back into PC and ran the 2.52 upgrade (which is very quick btw).....

I used the bootable 2.52 CD and followed the instructions, but maybe after it copies files to the drive, you have to make them executable either while in the PC or after it is put into the Tivo?????? It is in the tivo now and we have installed some of the stuff separately (like the xplusz)... will it hurt to now make that .tcl executable - should I start all over?

Does anyone have S-I-M-P-L-E faq that goes along with this theory that has A-L-L the steps..... when it comes to unix commands I am dumb AND dumber!!!!!!!!!

Simple help please!!!

You shouldn't have to make anything executable if you installed from the boot CD. The upgrd252.tcl file is just a script that unzips the tar file and installs the upgrade if you extracted them and copied them manually. It should run automatically from the CD without doing anything extra.

When you reinstalled the drives in the DTivo after performing the upgrade, did it update the database similar to the way it did with the original 2.5Xtreme upgrade? If not then the upgrade probably didn't install. If it were me, I'd start over from scratch rather than try to patch it together at this point.

I have done it from scratch TWICE... and the upgrade doesn't seem to be taking... the boot CD for the upgrade seems to work fine and running the setup prog seems to go through without a hitch too... is xupgrade.zip (superzaps 3.1 tivolator Upgrade including xPlusz) not what I should be using? If so, what could possibly be causing all these woes?

Shouldn't it automatically support my turbonet card? Obviously that is the first thing that should be working after the upgrade, but it hasn't been... I have had to stick the tivo drive back in the PC and run the turbonet boot setup CD to get it to work.

I am seeing so many upgrades... should I be using this one instead?:
Sony T60 2.52 Xtreme from superzap

?????

Does it have all the tools that the other one does (tivoweb, turbonet, joe, backdoor tools, etc.)???

Can you install this one from scratch, or is it an upgrade too???

Too confusing... too much faq... brain overload...

I am trying the option to extract the 2 upgrade files using winimage, then transfer them to /var/hack then chmod +x, then run ./UPGRD252.TCL

i answer 'y' to continue, it says

extracting files...

ERROR: GZ/utils extract failed: cpio: v252.tar: No such file or directory
bash-2.02#

WHAT'S UP WITH THAT?

well, that was a case issue, so i got the upgrade to run... now the turbonet seems to be broke... does the upgrade reset the IP info to something other than 192.168.1.200, 255.255.255.0 ?

ok.... ( i love this thread i am having with myself) :)

i figured out that it reset the tivo to 192.168.1.5
(no thanks to the readme!!)

i really don't want the darn thing communicating on the internet... how do i get in there and change all that now?

You'll need to edit the /etc/rc.d/rc.net file with the following changes to give your DTivo a static IP address:

# mkdir -p /var/state/dhcp
/sbin/ifconfig net0 192.168.2.100 netmask 255.255.255.0 up
# /sbin/dhclient -q "$DYNAMIN_NET_DEV" 2>/dev/null &

Note that the two lines preceded by the "#" sign are currently in the rc.net file. The "#" sign is used to comment the line out. Just add the "#" sign to the two lines as indicated and insert the third line as shown except that you will change the IP address to match whatever you choose to assign to your DTivo.

Thanks, but I am actually more concerned about the gateway address rather than the IP and subnet.

How do I change that?

Also, is there a readme or something on how to work 'joe' ?

Thanks!

There is no need to worry about the default gateway if your PC and Tivo are on the same network and that's all the connectivity you need.

If you are trying to allow the Tivo to be accessed from the Internet, or you want it to do the daily call over the 'Net, that's when you need to configure the gateway address.

Ok, got that... now... I think my xplusz stuff is working for the most part now, except TivoWeb... how to I troubleshoot that... or can I just re-install it?

Thanks

dam$%^&
shi$%^&*

actually... it doesn't even seem that the backdoor stuff is working now... I am about fed up with this 2.52 upgrade... the only thing I can consistently get to work is the turbonet... and what good does that do if you can't get anything else to work that is supposed to come with the xplusz stuff, tivoweb, etc.?????????
