Hi.

I want to archive a bunch of source media for later playback. Thus, I want to record at 720x480 with the best bitrate possible using my Sony SVR-2000 SA.

I've been mucking with the Constant bitrate settings in Tivoweb.

I know I've done *something* because my recorded file sizes have basically doubled. Is there an easy way (short of converting to MPEG) to check the resolution and bitrate of a TY, TY+, or TMF?

I can extract any of these formats (thanks to mfs_ftp). I just want to lock-down my current settings and copy them to the other 3 TIVOs in my house. :)

FYI: The 2 samples I have (one recorded with default settings and 1 with my custom settings) both look identical on my 16:9 LCD TV screen. So far, only the filesize itself seems to be different.

Thanks!

You might already know this, but......

If you use Tytools you could pull just a little of the files when you extract and you could pull them off in .mpg format. Just check the File..Multiplex mode and Options..Set Length to only pull 100 chunks or something like that. Then use mpegprop to see what the settings are.

There's a 32K skew for some reason when you do this. For example:

* In tivoweb, set the bitrate to 3500000.

* Resulting .TY file: 3340000 video + 192000 audio = 3532000.

So you seem to need to subtract 32000 from the .TY video + audio bitrate to get the tivoweb bitrate.

(This is on a Series 1 SA.)
