Ok, just got another tivo, a dsr6000

Person said when they got it, it worked fine, they unplugged it for the night, the next day, no image, no sound, no picture etc..

So i figured a PS problem

It gets here, and it gets to the "welcome screen"

So im like, alright. Go out

Buy a 120gb hdd.... nothin

It hangs on the welcome screen, with no noise at all from any hdd ive tried!

Any advice?

Thanks
CJ

EDIT: its not the power supply, i tried it with an external one (for the hdd only) and it still dont work

When i plug it all in, except the ide cable, the hard drive turns on, makes its noises etc...

When i plug the ide cable into that , the hdd just dies, no sound, nada.

I tried 3 ide cables!

The 40gb maxtor and 120gb WD both do that

A 2gb segate i got, does NOT do that, when all the cables are in, it does its thing, and starts up (noises etc...)

So, hopefully SOMEONE has some insight!

Thx again
CJ

Check the ribbon cable between the power supply and the mainboard. The contacts get dirty or simply lose contact after a while and cause all sorts of weird boot or powering up problems. It seems to work if you just pull it completely out and flip it end for end and reinsert it. You may have to reseat it several times to get it working. Cleaning the contacts with a clean pencil eraser also helps.

This is a common symptom of plugging the cable in backwards.

Does the same thing happen when you remove power from the motherboard but not from the drive?

Its not backwards, i know (besides the fact that its one of them keyed ide cables, w/ the little notch)

well, i removed the parlex cable, and nothing happened

I've actually had a tivo where the notch was on the wrong side on the motherboard. Try switching.

I will, but it worked for 1 day fine, then died!

The red stripe on the ide cable goes like this...

... close to the power connector on the drive &
... toward the power supply side of the connector on the motherboard. (facing the tivo front, right side of connector)
