I have about 438 questions to ask about S2 "improvements" but I will just ask this.

With the images that are floating around for S2 boxes does it make sense to backup the image of the original HD or keep the drive as a backup when you can always just re-install one of the net versions on your larger hd at will?

I always keep my original drive intact.

Many reasons for this. Here are a few...

1) Unmodified drive can be put back in for warranty work
2) If DTV or Tivo ever get a bug up their ass and close down all the image sites, you may not be able to put the original code back
3) Compared to not too long ago, drives are cheap

I just want to clarify,

1)Not interested, nor would I ever send anything back to a OEM.

2)DTV already has a bug in the anus, trust me. If the image is saved on a DVD-R what does having the "original code" mean?

3)I know I know but it is a 40gb drive that can be made useful right now.

thanks for an answer.........

Not sure where you are going with this...

You asked if there are any reasons to keep the original HD intact. Those are my reasons. They don't have to be your reasons.
