Dead Tivo

Hi All,
I have a Tivo SVR-2000 by Sony that just died on me, Im not sure what went wrong it just wouldnt turn on one day. When I plug it in I can hear the fan spinning inside but thats all it does.

I called Tivo to get a price on fixing it but they want too much, so Ive been without a Tivo for 5 Months now and I miss it a lot, I want to fix it but I dont know whats wrong exactly.

Anyone else have a Tivo die like this?

Well, most of the time when it does not do anything means that the drive is dead/sick. I don't have any tivos in that state.

Things to try:

1 - check the voltage on the hard drive power connector. If there is no +12 or +5, replace powersupply.

2 - check to see if the hard drive is spinning up. If not, replace the hard drive.

3 - If the hard drive is spinning up, run diagnostics on the drive and reload a good image.

If any thing else is wrong, buy a replacement unit either refurbished or used. It is cheaper than dealing with tivo to get it fixed.
