View Full Version : DSR7000 Modification Questions

I have a new DSR7000 that I am interested in modifying. The one question I have is that in reading the sticky posted my Cobelli he is saying to make sure the unit is at the latest release which he states as being 3.1.0-01-2-151.

However, my DSR7000 has 3.1.0-05-2-101 and I have plugged it into the phone line and let it do its thing. So, if I go through the howto is it gonna work or bomb because of my software version?

TIA

Just make sure you back up you original software. You can be the first to let everybody know if parts of U5 you copy over works with that version.

Anybody know what changes are in 3.1.0-05-2-101?

there are no changes. as mentioned, only the stuff before the first dash matters. everything after that indicates stuff like what model it is. the version he has is the standard 3.1.0, but the other stuff indicates that its running on a dasr7000 instead of a hdvr2

I just got my DSR7000 yesterday and I'm trying to play catch up on hacking the series 2 DTivos. I'm a bit fuzzy on the OS versions and even more so after doing a search. mrblack51's post above and the one below posted by Requiem seem to be in direct conflict:

The following originally posted by Requiem:

MY DSR7000 cam with OS version: 3.1.0-05-2-101

I tried the Bash-env hack and it wouldn't work.

Took my HDVR2 U5 drive image and it worked perfectly in the DSR7000... pretty much what we all thought.

The DSR7000 is clearly identical to my HDVR2 when it comes to it's internal components (just like the GXCEBOT was identical to the DSR6000 internally).

Both machines are made by the same company in Mexico - Amtek.

Interestingly, Hughes/Philips have decided to save costs... They both use the same background animations. They're predecessors had slightly different ones (the Philips or Hughes name would fade across the top of some of the screens.

Edit by MrBlack51: changed some wording to prevent confusion.

Flame me for a newbie if I'm not getting this straight but this is what I understand about hacking a S2 DTivo so far: The 3.1.U5 kernel is the one that is hackable so we use it in place of the one that comes with 3.1.0-whatever. However, we actually want the 3.1.0 OS on the hard drive and simply want to replace the kernel with the one from 3.1.U5. I'm guessing from Requiem's post that he tried the BASH_ENV hack on the 3.1.0-05-2-101 OS directly without using the 3.1.u5 kernel. If this is the case then I think I'm following everything so far. I gather that I just treat the 3.1.0-05-1-101 OS the same as the 3.1.0-01-2-151 for the HDVR2. If not, then damn my newbie hide and flog me with a ribbon cable!

the only difference between 3.1.0 and 3.1.u5 is that the kernel for 3.1.0 has an anti-bash_env initrd in it. The only reason why swapping the kernels works is because everything else is the same. there is no difference between the 3.1.0 and 3.1.u5 "userland"s as people like to call them.

as for the difference between the OS's of the two units? well, nothing. the difference in the version number after the first - is simply related to different units. I don't remember what the -01 versus -05 indicates, but the -2 means its a series 2 unit, and the -101 means its a philips dsr7000, while the -151 indicates its a hughes hdvr2. Thats why its so problematic for people to refer to the 'u5' kernel as a 151 kernel or whatever, because the 151 is meaningless, all HDVR2 kernels will have it.

Thanks Mr B51. That's about what I figured. I haven't had the time to devote to hacking the S2 DTivo that I did with the S1 units so I'm taking things in stride and just trying to get up to speed. Just too darn many other things going on to do the things I really want to do.
