Just wanting to know, if I comment out the prom updates, var partition restore, and updatesoftware areas in rc.sysinit, would you consider this safe for updating through network? I want to keep my HDVR2 happy with calling home(don't have phone), just don't want the hacks erased.

Also, on a second note. The #401 works if you provide a gateway path, and do not put a sleep command with the insmod commands.

Not having updatesoftware in rc.sysinit seems to prevent updates. To test this restore a copy of 3.1U5 without deleting the updateSoftware file or changing the rc.sysinit file. Should upgrade to the 3.1....151 version. Then restore the 3.1U5 version with the upgrade prevention. Should not see any upgrades occurring. This should give you peace of mind.

I don't think commenting out the update PROM will do anything for you. Out of the box these TIVOs are not set up to flash the PROM. Guess this is just left over code.
