I have an hdvr2 brand new about a month old. The stock 40gb drive died on me. Rather than going through the trouble of calling hughes I swaped with a 120gb drive. This one lasted a week and bit it. What the hell is killing them?

The drive in my first HDVR2 died after only two weeks. I thought it might be shock-related... You haven't moved it while it's running, have you?

I find heat to be the biggest drive killer. How hot is your Tivo running?

Don't call Hughes, call the drive manufacturer if your drive died. You'll probably get a faster response that way. Hughes will probably want you to return the entire DTivo to them for service. Most drive manufacturer's will overnight you a replacement drive and give you 30 days to return the defective one if you provide them with a credit card.

I haven't checked exact temps, but it is in a well ventilated case and never felt hot. I already rma'd the maxtor drive, but i was just wondering if there was possibly a problem with the tivo. SHould I be putting it in standby so it don't work as hard.
