View Full Version : Mouting the tivo partitions to install tivonet

I've tried a new image on a Sony SVR-2000 (after a meltdown of the old A drive) and after install it runs in the tivo just fine. I'm trying to get the tivonet drivers installed and can't get the hdx4 or hdx7 mounted to do the install. It keeps saying that I need to specify a filesystem type to mount the tivo partitions. I've tried it in 2 different computers with 3 different boot CD's. Any hints?

Don't use the MFS Tools 2.0 CD to boot from.
Don't install your Tivo drive as primary master.
Don't have more than one CD-ROM drive on your IDE bus when booting from a Linux boot disc.
Try a different CD-ROM drive if you can't boot from the one you're using or you're getting an error in Linux.

Well I tried all your suggestions with no success. I've attached the tivo drive to hdc, I've only got 1 CDROM drive and have tried 4 different boot CD's, 2 different computers and it's still saying that I need to specify the filesystem type.
I know the drive is functional since I can boot it on my tivo. I've attached it to a phone line and the 2.5 image took all the guide data during the first phone call. Second daily call downloaded the 3.0 update.
Absolutely the only thing now working is getting the partitions mounted (hdc4 and hdc7) to do the tivonet driver installation.
Any help would be appreciated.

I assume you mean NOT working...
Well, Boot from a floppy. Get 'Dylan's Boot Disk' (http://tivo.samba.org/download/belboz/tivoboot_v3.zip)
Unzip it then run the makeboot.bat or whatever and you'll have a boot disk that's not a CD. Hold down shift during the boot and then it'll give something ending in boot: Hit TAB then...
Just choose TiVo_noswap by typing it exactly (case matters)
You should see your drive and partitions whizing by. You can type
pdisk -l /dev/hdX | more
where X is your drive position to see it slower. You should then be able to mount away. One note the kernel provided was not as up-to-date as the genromfs files I found so if you need to use genromfs you'll have to reboot with mfstools 2.0

The PVR Hack website has been down for ages so the link you posted is a dead end. Please check the validity of any links before posting them.
I've done some looking around and so far I'm drawing a blank for a valid link to Dylan's Boot Disk. If I find it I'll post it here.

Just do a google search on the filename, I found it on the first link.

Use the 25xtreme cd to mount your drives...
I used every single bootable floppy, and cd to no use, but the 25xtreme cd worked the first time!
