View Full Version : Locating SZ's 2.5.2 Upgrade File for Bash Method

I have the ISO file of 52MB to use when working directly with the removed drives, but TiVOstuff.com doesn't seem to have the two files needed for upgrading via the bash method.

I believe the two files are the .tar one and the .tcl one, but I can't seem to locate them. Can someone suggest where?

My buddy wants me to upgrade his two T60's, and he doesn't want to go through the mess of removing the drives, etc. No biggie for me, but I'll need to ensure I have the right files to do it via the bash prompt.

Lastly, if one of his T60's has 2.5 plain on it, can I do the upgrade the same way and have it work, or should that unit be reimaged from scratch?

Thanks.

Unzip the file. Then open the .ISO file with WinISO or ISObuster. Inside that archive will be a folder called UPGRD252 which has the files you want.

If his unit has never been hacked, you'll have to Xtreme it first before you can upgrade to 2.5.2.

I opened the ISO with WinRAR and extracted the file(s) needed.

When I do that, I get three files that come up:

UPGRD252.SH SH file
UPGRD252.TCL TCL file
V252.tar WinZIP file

As indicated, the V252.tar file shows it's zipped.

A tar file is a form of zipped file, but that's the file you want.

Just to make sure, then, BL: Do I still need to unzip this zipped-looking v252.tar file, or do I send it as is to the tivo via bash?

Whoops. Never mind. I'll wait for BL's response. :D

You send the file as is (using Binary mode if ftp'ing). The script you run is expecting the file to still be a tar file. It gets un-tarred on the Tivo.

Thanks, BL. No, I'm not ftp-ing. Just sending it via Tera Term Pro over the bash prompt. No worry about the time needed, so it's no biggie.

Gracias otra vez. :)
