How does a standalone tivo work, with a rca 3rd gen reciever?
I would like to buy a standalone to work with richmond locals on my old rca, since the richmond locals don't come through on my rca plus, or my sat t-60 dtivo...

do you have to use infrared to control, or is there a cable that plugs up from standalone to rca reciever...?

what model standalone should I get(one better for this than others...)?

Thanks,
smokeman

I haven't been able to find another receiver like the hughes platinum series that I currently have. It has a db9 serial connector in back of the receiver that connects directly to the bi-polar (earphone jack) on the back of my hdr312 (30 hour unmodified) tivo. I have been looking to get some either new or refurbished receivers any help would be appreciated. All of the receivers I can find requires the use of an "Ir blaster" to change channels. I have read that these "ir blasters" have a missed channel percentage of around 5%.

Look on the back or the RCA. Many had DB9 serial ports. The Tivo can control it via the serial cable. Some of the Sony's also had serial ports. Not sure about newer receivers.
