View Full Version : VEEEERY Slow channel changes?????

I have a hardly hacked Tivo. It's a Philips 40 hour with an additional 80 GB drive B and a TivoNet adapter. Once the system upgraded itself to 3.0.1 automatically I have never re-installed any hacks so it's as factory as you can be other than the hardware mods.

When I change the channel, sometimes it will take a LONG time to actually finish the channel change. That could be 30 seconds, or 1/2 hour!!! It doesn't happen every time but enough that I am paranoid about it getting the shows I want. The funny thing is it seems to have no effect on the recording/playback.

Whether I am changing the channel or Tivo is changing because of a scheduled recording, it will either stay on the current screen watching the old channel, or the screen could go black. Tivo would be unresponsive during either until it finishes. If I switch to my cable box remote and manually change the channel, my show will be recorded on time like normal, except 15 minutes later I may see that channel change finally happen.

So obviously the process in charge of recording and the process in charge of changing the channels are separate, but I don't even know where to begin on fixing this. I just picked up a 160GB hard drive this weekend and I'm tempted to just install it by itself in case one of the drives is going, but I'm afraid that won't fix my problem (after all the recordings themselves are fine and they would be the most disk intensive.)

Is there anything I should look at? Perhaps change a timing, priority, etc on a process? Would I be wasting my time with the new drive?

Also, I was contemplating the LBA48 hack for the new drive, but am I destinied to get the 4.0 software soon or is that only for Series 2?

Thanks
