Is it possible to flash the prom on a 3.1 DSR6000 without having to go back to 2.x and using 25xtreme?

I have a virgin system with 3.1 on it. I have a new 160GB drive that I want to put into it. I'd like to keep my recordings. I am interested in using the lba48 so that I can use the full drive. But using a hacked kernel means needing a hacked prom.

Can I flash the prom from where I am? Or do I have to go back to 2.x and run through the process??

Thanks.

use 25xtreme on the 160gb.
remove current A drive and drop in the 160gb, letting it go through its upgrade process, which will flash the prom
remove the 160gb and use mfsadd on it, and apply the necessary hacks to the kernel on your original A drive.
place back in tivo and enjoy

It sounds like you are talking about me ADDING the 160GB to the original 40GB. I want to replace the 40 leaving only the 160. I hadn't really considered doing that since I am worried about the heat that a 160 throws off.

Since I want to retain my current recordings, can you recommend the best search terms so I can read about copying them from the old drive to the new drive or perhaps point me to an appropriate thread?

Does the MFSTools 2.0 August 2003 update support large disks? It is listed as "mfstools2_modified.zip" dated "8/18/2003" but it is unclear what the "modification" is.

You could temporarily Xtreme the 160, put it in the Tivo and let it run through the flash stage to get the PROM done. Or even use the Turbonet install disk, I think that has the PROM mod as well. I don't know about the modded MFSTools, haven't seen it myself.
