When blisterpopper "fixes" 3.1 for older cards does it also fix it to allow "made up" numbers.

jjbliss thanks for this awesome work of art... it was just what I wanted.... speed and simplicity.

Cheers.

ps. will an older boot299 file work on 3.1 with blissterpopper aready installed.

BlissTerPopper allows 3.1 versions of DTivo software to work with an HU card for those folks who haven't gotten their P4 card yet.

The ability to use "made up" numbers can only be used for signal theft, and has no legitimate uses, therefore, it is not included with any version of BlissTerPopper.

If you have an older copy of the boot299.btl file and you'd like to try it, feel free to give it a shot. What have you got to lose?

Ok. That works. I must admit I know very little about linux but I am keen to learn. Simple things like transfering files are a whole new experience to me. Anyways by reading copyboot299 and the instructions to loading blissterpopper again I was able to piece it together.

I did the following:

serial connection... (I learned the hard way to make sure flow control is none)

rmrw
cd /etccombo
mv boot299.btl boot299.btl.old

then I sz send the old boot299.btl

chmod 655 ./boot299.btl

ls -l (noticed that it was different then other boot299.btl.old)
chmod 644 ./boot299.btl (now the same :) although I assume it doesnt' matter cause copyboot299 file uses 655)
rmro
reboot

Can boot299.btl cause any pixcelation?
I read somewhere that multiswitch can cause problems. Why is that?
I think it was just a bloated tivo causing the problems before reload cause it would take 4 seconds to react to remote many times.

Is there a way to install 2.52 similar to blissterpopper? I just want speed. BTW I have a 160 (originally 120 replaced by maxtor) and a 120 maxtor drive... is this just too much for tivo to handle?

Many thanks again to jjBliss!

Cheers.

A multiswitch can cause signal loss because it attenuates the signal.

Using the wrong version of the btl may cause pixelation.

Using a Period 3 access card on these machines, in spite of the fact that the faster Period 4 card is required for smooth operation, will cause sporadic pixelation. Running illegal software on the access card will also cost you precious cycles during video authorization (which causes occasional timeouts in the first place on a normal P3) and that will make the problem even worse. A P3 card is at least 300-350 milliseconds slower than a P4 card during the VA sequence, and that often spells the difference between clean video and pixelation.

DTV issued P4 cards to all PVR owners prior to the Tivo 3.1 and UTV 3.7 upgrades. They did this for a reason. If you do not upgrade you will suffer.

Thanks for the reply.... well I have most of those problems I have a multiswitch, p3 card, wrong btl.... I will try to remove the multiswitch and hope that is the problem. The pixelization is definitely not a hash. But could be the slow p3 card or wrong btl.

Cheers.
