I have re-written the instructions so that they are clearer for those experiencing problems installing it from the boot cd. It should be easy as pie now.

Hey Snoopy. I noticed after I run "clear and reset everything" that my Tivo is no longer able to be reached through the nic. I can only bash into it. I did test the nic prior to cleaning up the machine but now it doesn't work. I even tried to reinstall and the same thing happened again. Any ideas? I really need to extract some shows and I'm stuck without my network working... ;(
Thanks.
PS _ I noticed that the read-only flag is set to off via xPlusz. Does that have anything to do with anything???

Snoopy, I have installed this image on a SAT T60. Where can I find information on the Backdoor codes that I see listed at the end of the System Information page?
Thanks,

dsssatellite guy: just a thought, maybe try running xplusz commands again for ftp,etc. Not sure, maybe wiped out by the clear and reset....

I can't believe I haven't caught on to that before. Yep, I would re-run the appropriate xpluz commands via the documentation for it.

Just a note for others... (I have already made snoopy aware of this)
I needed to reinstall the NIC drivers via the NIC install cd. This cleared up all the networking issues. There is a "special way" that Xplusz loads the NIC driver and that was the issue. I have been trouble free for over 10 weeks now.

Snoopy,
I have tried your image and all works fine except for the large drive size.
I attempted to install the image on 2 300g maxtor drives to be installed into a Sony T60.
On the PC side:
I booted from the CD, fine then as follows:
mount /dev/hdb (my cd is primary slave) /var/log/mount
mfstool restore -x -i /var/log/mount/tivo.bak /dev/hdc /dev/hdd
my 2 drives 300 gb drives are secondary master and slave in the PC
restore ran fine and reported that the first drive was ~120mb larger than original the second derive ~290mb larger than the original. This seemed right to me.
when installed into the tivo. all works fine except the tivo does not see the entire drives and gives me only 250hours of recording capacity.
here is the info from tivowebplus info module:
Filesystem Type Size Used Avail Capacity Mounted on
/dev/hda7 ext2 124M 34M 83M 29% /
/dev/hda9 ext2 124M 1.8M 116M 2% /var
/dev/hda:
multcount = 0 (off)
I/O support = 0 (default 16-bit)
using_dma = 1 (on)
readahead = 8 (on)
geometry = 16383/16/63, sectors = 268435455, start = 0
drive state is: active/idle
Device: Maxtor 5A300J0 Supports ATA Version 7
Drive supports S.M.A.R.T. and is enabled
Check S.M.A.R.T. Passed
/dev/hdb:

here is what tivo reports on "df" for /dev/hda and /dev/hdb:
/var/hack# df /dev/hda

/dev/hda 126911 35116 85242 29%
/var/hack# df /dev/hdb

any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks in advance for any help

it would be best to chat with me about this one.
I have been unable to get the tivo unleashed image to boot once I burn it to a CD. I have used both Nero and Roxio without luck. Any suggestions you have would be appreaciated. I have also tried downloading the file again w/o success.
Thanks

to use the full space, you need to have an lba48 kernel running when you do the mfsrestore and such, and you need to use an lba48 kernel on the tivo. i would imagine that snoopy's disk neither uses an lba48 enabled kernel, nor does it use an lba48 kernel in the image which is restored.

Snoopy-
Will your image automagically flash the prom? Or do we still have to do that manually?

I am having an wierd problem here, any help i appriciated. I have a new maxtor 80gb drive and when i re-image the drive with the tivounleashed image it goes to 100% and then the progress meter starts changing constantly, i see that the amout written is the full amount. What could be going wrong here? i remember reading in hinsdale how to guide that when you reimage to a non quantum drive you have to run tivomad, but i believe that was for 2.0 and prior images i believe that this image is 3.x, could this be my problem,(i didn't use tivomad). again again thanks for any help.

Well i got it to completely run through with out the percentage jumping problem by reburning the iso with nero at 4x, and the appropriate size is reported, and i umount, but now when i put the drive in the tivo it's stuck on the powering up screen, i checked and the jumper is on master in a single drive configuration, i didn't use any other software didn't add any other hacks, just followed the instructions, i am completely stumped. i forgot to mention earlier it's a dsr6000 that this is drive is being used on.

I had the same problem with a single drive configuration with jumper on master, I then changed the jumper to Cable Select and it worked after that.

I am having problems installing the latest release of Tivo Unleashed. I have followed the install instructions perfectly and it always stops at 813MB during the restore. The compression percentage continues to change at an extremely rapid rate. I've let it run over night and it never goes any further. I have repeatedly repartitioned the drive to one large partition first.
BTW, I don't know if this is relevant, but just in case it is... When I attempt to burn the image with Nero 6.3, Nero thinks the ISO is a foreign image file. So I burn the disc using Alcohol 120% instead which seemed to work fine. If there are specific settings I should use while burning the image, please let me know.
Thanks.

Thanks.Well it shouldn't be stopping there. I have an image in the TEST folder that is the same image but a much different installation routine that is more automated. Anyone having difficulties might try that. It's called Instant Cake. It is beta software and is in no way perfect. It tries to completely "automate" the process by first asking you to "bake a cake" (Y for yes or N for no). Understand that the "baking the cake" is a flash routine for your PROM. I can't help with it. It's a test image so you are on your own. You can't flash a prom with a drive that contains no working tivo system to begin with. It will act as though it did what it was supposed to but nothing actually happened if you started with a clean drive. What I would recommend (and keep in mind it is the ONLY thing I can say about it -- I cannot help with it), is that you NOT "bake the cake" (skip that step) and just put the "icing on your cake" as if your prom is already flashed. It most likely is (99.9% of the time). I won't be answering questions about InstantCake because it's not well developed but might help some as an alternative installation routine. It is simply that... an "alternative" installation routine. The image you are putting on your drive with it is exactly the same. I hope that helps some.

Does this image really work with SA1? I thought you could not run an dtivo image on an SA.

Snoopy,
Thanks for the help. When I try to download InstantCake CuteFTP gives me the following message:
550 InstantCake (for unflashed TiVos -- completely automated).iso: Access is denied.
ERROR:> Requested action not taken (e.g., file or directory not found, no access).
I'm don't think its what I'm doing because I was able to download unleashed fine. Do you just have the permissions set wrong?

tivo is sending cease & desist letters to anyone hosting images - to avoid legal trouble, links to images are no longer allowed on DD
- the management
( you might also notice ALL mention of show sharing been removed - there's allready been legal action on that front :rolleyes: )
