Hi,
I recently purchased a DSR7000 and a Maxtor 160G HD. I follow the instruction and try to replace the OtivoH by a 160G Tivo HD. I have no problem to restore the image to the 160G HD by using "mfsrestore -s 127 -xzpi ..." I determine the kernel location is 6 by using bootpage. When I tried to copy 3.1.U5 on partition 6 by using DD, I receive an error message indicating that "No space left on device (/dev/hdc6).
Did I do anything wrong? Thanks for any help in advance.

If you wrote zero blocks, you need to reboot to refresh your in-memory partition table image.
If you wrote 4096 blocks = 2048KB, it is normal.

Hi David,
Thanks for your reply. I am new to Series 2 hacking. Please forgive me if I ask stupid questions.
1. What do you mean by "wrote zero blocks"? How do I write "4096 blocks = 2048KB?"
2. How do I you reboot to refresh your in-memory partition table image? Do you mean to install the Dtivo on the DVR7000 and reboot? Or do you mean to reboot the PC before I do the DD?
Thanks for your patience.

a.) Don't wory about the zero blocks. Just reboot after using mfsrestore. Follow cobelli's HOWTO at
http://www.hostfreedom.com/tivo/onepage.html
b.)Reboot the PC crtl+alt+delete. Then finish the installation.
Also, your installation WILL NOT work with that 160GB drive unless you ran a utility like Maxtor's MasBlastIII or Hitachi/IBM FeatureTool. You must configure the drive to report a maximum size of 137.44GB. The LBA sectors should be no more than 268435455.
I'm working on writing scripts that do the entire upgrade/installation automatically. No offense, but the intent is to make it so that people with limited or no computer skills can hack their Tivo's with very little knowledge or effort.

Actually, if you are using the MFSTools2 boot CD it will recognize the 160GB drive as a 137GB drive, and no modifications need to be made.
You will only run into problems when booting a version of Linux that breaks the 137GB barrier (lba48 enabled). You will get the full capacity of the drive, but your Tivo won't be able to read from it.
Chaos ensues.

I run Jonnydeath's MFSTools2 boot disk.
I'm not sure where I got it from. This version recognizes the drives as 160G unless you run one of the utilities and set the drive size.
