help please with ftp problem

i've gotten the ftp working as far as accessing the tivo and being able to see all the dir/ files ,,, but when i highlight a file to tranfer it to my pc it just stalls , anyone got a clue?
p.s. i DID search to find a solution , but ftp brings up a mountain of posts in which i couldn't find any help
