I have no idea how to hack the tivo. So i found a member here that did and we made a trade. I sent him my goods and he sent me $ and a 120 gig HDD done up for my series 2 tivo. But when i put the HDD in all worked but every time i change the channel it keeps telling me to call for my DVR sub. He told me i had to run fixsub. I have no idea what that is. He also said i need telnet or a cable. I have a serial cable from my series 1 tivo, but its got a male connector and so does my pc. The guy said i need to get a null modem adapter. So i did, but its also a male connector. So i bought a gender changer. Now i will be able to hook up my tivo to my pc.

Here's where i'm stuck. I have no idea what i'm suppose to do. I would really hate for to screw up this drive. Already i have $160 in goods traded for it. I just didn't have time to try and learn a new hobby. But unfortunately it looks like i will be learning here shortly.

If anyone will be kind enough to give me a step by step to get me back on track it would be great. I read the guide, but I'm not starting from scratch with a bare drive. I just need to fix this one part.

Oh yeah. will it be possible for me to hook this drive in my pc and make a back up of it in case i ruin it? Will the pc recognize all the files on the drive?

Thanks and sorry for rambling on so much.

Need some more info but from what you said so far it sounds like your missing the tivo tier from your card and that might be it.

oh. that makes sense. is it possible to get it in a hex and add it to the card?

Yes, it has been covered many times on this site and others just do a search on it.

What you're talking about has to do with hacking the DTV access card and isn't something we discuss here. There are other forums suited for that kind of hacking. If you want to learn more about hacking a Tivo, I suggest you follow the tips I've listed in my signature below and start reading.

Hacking a Tivo isn't all that difficult once you understand the logic behind the various hacks. You don't have to be a Linux whiz but you should at least have a basic knowledge of setting up hard drives and other devices in your PC's BIOS. The DTivo Hacking FAQ and the Tivo Newbies Guide would be a good place for you to start reading and then take it from there. The How Tos Only sticky thread in the DirecTV Tivo Hacking Forum (and all of the sticky threads in the other forums for that matter) should be considered mandatory reading for anyone starting out in this hobby.

i agree, but i'm not starting from scratch. i wasn't sure where the HDD went wrong. like i said i really haven't had much time to pick up a new hobby, but i will have to find time to read everything and get a feel for it.

Not for nothin', but why isn't the guy who did this for you helping you now?
