DirecTivo 35 Hour Dual Tuner Receiver $50 AR from Circuit City even current subscribers ($100 - $50 rebate)

Check out this thread on fatwallet: http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/messageview.cfm?catid=18&threadid=225589

This week circuit city has the HDVR2 for $99.99
Sold out on line but available for in store pickup. This does not include installation and requires a 1 year contract just like the $99 deal from DTV. There was a $50 rebate good from 9/28 -10/4 earlier this week, but the effective dates have been changed on the website. the tread on fatwallet has links to the original rebate form and circuit city told me they would honor the original form if I submitted it.

For anyone that's interested, Circuit City pulled a silent switcheroo on everyone with regards to the $50 rebate on the $99 HDVR2 DTivo. They changed the end purchase date to 9/30/03 and they also changed the rebate form on their website to reflect this change. However, for those that are still lucky enough to find an HDVR2 still in stock at their local CC, here's a link to the original rebate form with an end purchase date of 10/04/03 and I understand that Circuit City will still honor the original rebate.

I just picked up one today (my 5th DTivo and 2nd S2 model).:

How many do ya want? Just delete them after 10/04/03 since the sale and rebate will have ended by then.

I know I've missed the rebate on these, but: If I go out and buy one for $99, and do not activate through DirecTV - I know CC says they will charge me $150 for failure to activate within 30 days, which puts the price at $250, which is still not too bad (however its no deal).

Has anyone here ever had them actually charge you the $150? or is it a shallow threat scare tactic? :o

Thanks alot,
Walter

They will most definitely charge you the $150 if you don't activate service within 30 days. That's why you can only purchase one with a credit card. The retailer gets a subsidy from DTV for selling the item and getting you to sign up for service. They'll get their money back from the DTV subscription. The retailer won't get their subsidy if the card is not activated within 30 days so the cost is passed on to you and charged to your credit card.
