Prefaces:
1) I've read every thread I can find on DVDlab
2) I love this program
Here's my problem:
I made DVDs of several videos that came out just fine.
Recently I tested the quality of the DVDs using the Best quality setting and the edited setting for "DVD compatible" video. I've found that no matter what setting, I don't have problems with the video. I'm now having problems with the audio.
On playback, I get gaps in the audio that come every so often and last for about one second.
Other programs recorded at medium settings seemed to work okay, but I'll have to try them again. Furthermore, I can play the audio files that have been transcoded by DVDlab its self, and they play fine.
These are files that were extracted, keyed, and muxed by the latest TyTools. It also applies to files that were muxed into mpg files and vob files.
I'd appreciate any help I can get.
Have you tried the "Patch Audio Holes..." in TyTool? I assume from your Best Quality reference that you're using a SA Tivo, so I'm sure if this will help or not. Dtivo streams converted with TyTool7r10 are working almost all the time for me.

I don't think the issue is with Tivo or TyTool. When I eventually mux the ty file into an mpg or vob file, I'm able to play them in WMP and PowerDVD, respectively, with none of the problems I'm talking about. Even when DVDlab has transcoded the audio, I'm able to play the result in WMP with no gaps. It's only when I play the final DVDs on my standalone that the gaps show up. It could be the standalone DVD player that's causing it, but previous files have worked fine.
I'll try the DVDs in someone else's player and see if I get the same result.
Oh, and by the way, I do have an SA Tivo. Sorry for not including that. I tried to cover all the facts :) :)
Strange. I've had what I think of as stutters that affect the video playback not just the audio. It's repeatable on the particular DVD(s) but only affects my progressive scan player. The Apex 600a and other cheapy player don't skip on them. Mine may be media related as I was using cheap Princos. I have Riteks -Rs and Memorex + Rs now and plan to retest.
I haven't seen just an audio skip yet. Have you tried the relaxed muxer in DVD Lab? Do you use the GOP fixer in mpg2vcr?

You don't mention what kind of player you have, but I've recently seen some mention that some (all?) older Sony (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&postid=120910&highlight=sony#post120910) players do not allow as much buffering as the DVD spec calls for. If you don't have a Sony DVD settop player, this probably doesn't apply to you.

Nope, I've got a Phillips.
And the media I'm using is Maxell DVD+RWs. Perhaps a simple DVD-R would suffice, but I'm running low at the moment and since I've run about 15 tests on this stuff, I would have hated to waste 15 DVDs.
Anyway, I think I found something that may shed some light on the problem. Every program I've burned to my DVD that was recorded at the default "Medium" quality setting has burned without any problems. It is only the "Best" quality and the "Basic" quality (that was adjusted in accordance to an old threda about the quality settings in the resource editor) that have produced the results I'm seeing.
I have no problem recording everything at medium setting, but I have some old stuff that I'd like to save, so I'd like to find the solution to this.
Thanks again.
I would recommend testing with DVD+RW/DVD-RWs. I used rewriteable DVDs when I started to test as I refined my Tivo to DVD process. Beats the heck out of coasters. :)
Have you tried the relaxed muxer in DVDLab? Even though your modified recording settings are "DVD Spec", it might help.
What audio settings are using? Are you transcoding at any step?
I know it isn't much help but those are the areas where I would look.
What resolution you have for Best, Medium and Basic? Did you set all to 720x480 or 352x480?
