Before anybody shouts I did search for this problem and did not see any threads identified as two tivos with turbonet cards on the same network. I also realize that this is the video extraction forum but that is the reason for both cards.
I have a problem when I try to install the second turbonet card onto my network. I have 4 computers and when I hook the second turbonet into the system they all dissapear. I tried both units individually and they work fine. I have two different routers with dhcp enabled and they both work the same. After much frustration I found out that either router would give either unit the same IP address. this got me looking at the MAC address of both cards. Lo and behold the MAC addresses are identical. That was what was causing the problem.
Does anybody know what I can do to modify the MAC address of one turbonet. I have already sent an e-mail to the people at 9th tee.
the local computer store suggested installing a second network card into my vidoe editing computing and using the second router to basically setup a second "isolated" network that has just the video computer and the second turbonet

Is there a reason you don't just eliminate DHCP and use static addresses?

This is your only choice for accessing both systems from one computer. It won't "link" the networks in any way though if that's what you're wondering. The crux of the whole situation is that there should NOT be two NIC's with the same MAC address!! I can't believe they really did that. I would contact 9th Tee and get another NIC.
EDIT: I thought I remembered reading somewhere about being able to change the MAC address (as far as the network was concerned) in UNIX. Take a look at this thread...

It might solve your problem.

Well, the turbonet doesn't have a MAC address, you have to assign one to it. It's a certain bash cvar, I am not sure which one though, you might do a little searching. If you run 3.1 however, it automaticaly assigns it a mac address thats based on your tivos serial number.
Note that having a MAC address isn't required for a NIC to function. When your computer sends outgoing TCP packets, it asks the NIC what its MAC address is, then puts it into the packet header. (yes, provided your using pretty much any OS other than windows, its EASILY possible to spoof your MAC address, if thats what your wondering)

There shouldn't be any problem using multiple Tivos on your home network, especially if you assign static Ip addresses as suggested above. I have three S1 DTivos with Turbonets and an S2 DTivo with USB ethernet adapter and they all coexist quite nicely along with the four PCs and cable modem on the network.

The MAC address is set on the command line when you load the driver. Just change the entry to something else and you're fine.
insmod -f /lib/modules/ax88796.o macaddr=012345 timing=5
BTW, you should never have two DHCP servers serving the same range of IP's. Even if you change the MAC address on one Tivo, you should also set non-overlapping IP ranges on the DHCP servers. (Although why you need two DHCP servers on a tiny network is beyond me.)

Did some investigating on the "other" forum... Found out that the problem is caused by me being lazy. I cloned the hard drives from the first modified tivo and placed them into the second.

Lazy?? Not at all! :) I'd call that working efficiently albeit with a simple oversight involved. ;)

Nothing lazy about it at all. How do you think I hacked all my other DTivos (after the first couple, that is)? I just remembered to change the IP address on each one before connecting them to my home network.

Just a followup. I went home and manually modified my rc.net file,
saved it reset rw to tread only and cycled power to one tivo. Both units now are happily residing on the same network

Now for the real fun - get mfs_ftp setup! Cwingert's OHM will be great too (if he gets the 'ok' to release it).
