Been crusin on Cobelli's guid. Then, had my 2 day old WD 120 die. Got it replaced, did a restore, life was sort of good.

After applying several of the hacks, T2 started endless re-boot.

I went back to restore, added 1 item at a time. It was kmem that was killing the tivo. No idea why. Need it for video extraction, time to test.

The first thing I tried seemed to work. Moved kmem to bottom of hackinit and put sleep 120 in front of it.

Life is better now

kmem is a crude tool that directly alters kernel memory without performing any checks. It was never intended for production use.

In particular, if you are using a different kernel than the one that came with 3.1U5, kmem will most likely bite you in the ass.
