I am guessing this is a simple one, but I can't seem to figure it out. When I try to get a video off the Tivo, it does not work. If I try to get it using MFStream, the file that it "downloads" is 0 bytes. If I use Tserver, I do get a large download, but I cannot open it with either tystudio, or mplayer. They both just give me errors. I have not changed any settings from default (I did not do anything with "noscrable".

You're gonna need to do that.
Without tending to the scrambling issue, you're not going to get very far with what you're trying to do.

I know this has been posted, but there seem to be about 20 differnet ways of doing this, so here is what I am trying to do:
#1. I have a bunch of video that is already on the Tivo that I want to get off. Some of it is very old (some over a year).
#2. I want to be able to extract video in the future.
Also, in looking at other posts, it looks like people with "scambling" errors, have different problems (ie scrambled picture). I just don't get anything, which is what makes me think it is something else. The error I get with Tystudio is just "failed to load selected ty file"
Am I on the wrong track?

If the recordings were made before enabling "noscramble", then you will NOT be able to extract them directly from the TiVo to a PC. You will have to play them through a capture card in order to acquire them on the PC.

Okay, If I turn "noscramble" on, will I be able to watch my old recordings, or will I have to delete them?
Also, I have seen a few ways of setting noscrable. What is the best way?

Well, if you wish to be able to watch your old recordings and to be able to extract your new recordings, your best (and simplest) option will be to use the commands in xPlusz.
First, you would need to turn noscramble ON with:
#47,1
Then, to watch an old recording you can temporarily deactivate it by using:
#54,0
When done watching the old recording, reactivate it by using:
#54,1
For more info on xPlusz, see this (http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=18394&highlight=xplusz) thread.

Just remember that if a recording starts while you are deactivated...well you can add that to the scrambled list

I am running a real version 3.1 (not xtreeme). Is this a problem for this program?

You can simply install xPlusz and use the features that you want. Xtreme is not necessary for xPlusz.
