Alot has changed since then and you have tons more in invested now than you did then. I certainly don't want to offend you by asking the following question as you have done so much work on the TyTool project for the benefit of all of us. My hat is off to you sir.

Are your plans still to change the status of TyTool to open-source eventually?

Note: to whomever reads this post.
The question of open-source is a yes or no question. It is not intended to re-open debate on this issue. Josh has a right to keep his source private and we should all respect that, even if he chooses never to make it public. My only hope in quoting here, is to get a definitive one way or another.

Great work Josh, as always.

I am undecided on this matter at the moment. At first when I said it I meant it without reservation but this place and the people who wanted/used/need it were one of the nicest groups of people I had ever been involved with. After the wars that have raged here since that time I was mad enough to go the other way and want to release nothing.

Now that the lay of the land is a bit different, more in the middle range, I don't know what I will do.

The splitting code itself was promised way back when and when I am truely done with it, it will be released.

But the splitter is one tiny portion of the "magic" that goes on inside of TyTool and vsplit. There is a serious amount of work involved in solving some of the issues. So I don't know how much just that 1 piece would help anyone.

At the moment my intention is to release it all when I am done and no longer going to work on things. But who knows. Flames, attacks, accusations, etc... can change anyones mind. As can cooperation and polite behaviour.

I know this is not the hard fast answer you wanted. But rest assured I don't plan to leave the Tivo users hanging one way or the other.

if you want to benefit the community you release source

if you just want a fan club you don't
