DSR6000
Extreme 2.5.2
2 120GB 5200 Hard Drives

This unit was installed over a year ago with those hard drives. Months ago, I upgraded the unit to extreme 2.5.2 and all worked fine until last night.

No matter where I am at, recording, playing, in the menus, the unit freezes.

I checked the temp and doesn't get much near 45 degrees. So thermal should not be it.

I have a normal sub card from DTV, so that shouldn't be it.

Anyone think of what I can do to diagnose the unit?

Thanks

Remove the HDs and run a non-writing test on them. The drive probably has a bad spot on it.

Well I did the diagnostic utility.

One drive fails their s.m.a.r.t diagnostics and one passes.

Checking the online warranty, shows they are both still under the old 3 year waranty plan.

Now my next question, Is it possible for me to backup only one drive (120Gig) and put it back onto the new replacement drive?

Thanks

smart error ==> it is toast.

If you can get a good backup of the bad drive, it is possible to restore it to the new drive. Look at the Hinsdale How-To. He covers all that stuff using mfstool 2.0

The best thing would be to get the new drive and then do a drive to drive copy. If that is successful, you will be golden. If you are unable to do a drive to drive copy, you are screwed.

Use mfstool to do the backup, as it only reads the used protions of the drive. The dd method reads every block and that will fail.

Thanks,

Looks like I need to do some reading before I get my replacement.

I'll post here my results.
