A friend gave me a Sony SVR-2000 that he was not using. He cxld the tivo service on it. What can I do with it? Can I use it like a VCR to record programs that I am watching? I have DTV and use a Sat T60, so I thought that I might just hook it up to one of my other Sat. receivers and record somthig. I have tried it out, but will not let me record my date and time, says Tivo account cxld. I thought I had read somewhere where you could still use it like a VCR without having Tivo service. Thanks in advance..

You could either use it as a dumb VCR if you install software version 1.3 on the SVR-2000. Alternatively, if you don't want to pay for the subscription, see www.tivocanada.com for more information on how to generate your own guide data.

The units that came with 1.3 SW are supposed to let you record manually. My HDR112 does and it now has 3.x.
You have tried to manually record by time going thru the menus (not from the guide or using the record button)? Have you let it call in?
Some of the Sony's came with the 2.x SW from the factory, so maybe that is why it won't let you record. If that is so, you will have to load 1.3 SW as previously mentioned.
