i had a lot of trouble extracting video from my tivo, REMOVING COMMERCIALS, and burning it to svcd. my mpegs kept losing audio-video sync. just thought i'd post what finally worked for me:
1) use tystudio to download the show.
2) mark the commercials to be removed with tystudio's built in cut marker (great tool).
3) save with settings for *dvd* (ie encode to DVD, audio DVD 48).
4) encode with a svcd making program that does a full recode. I used Ulead Media Studio Pro Video Editor, but i think almost any app will work
before i found this technique, using combinations of tytool, different mpeg editos, or burning without re-encoding all left me audio-video sync problems.
if anyone else who has had audio-video sync problems finds this works for them or has an improvement i'd be interested in hearing.
ps. one trick i found when removing commercials with built-in tystudio editor was to leave the last frame or two of the file, otherwise tystudio would sometimes give an error when it hit the end.
ps2. i tried a ton of video editors for removing commercials, and believe it or not, the tystudio built in cutter beats them all for ease of use. thank you tystudio(!).
