I just picked one of these up at Wally World. I noticed in my searches of this forum that Fugg has one and that it plays his .ty DVDs fine (he said he had a 1110 without the W on the end). All of my DVDs play fine in my PS2, but, won't play in this Apex.

It is a new model I guess.

The menu loads but nothing happens when trying to play.

I almost bought one of those this past weekend for my daughter. She's away at college and borrows my tyDVDs all the time to play on her PC. I gave her my old Toshiba player to use but it won't recognize either tyDVDs or recordable DVD formats. I ended up getting her a cheap Cyberhome model at Target for about $50.00 and it plays the tyDVDs just fine. It's a nice little player about the same width as your average compact bookshelf audio system. I didn't see the Apex until we stopped at the local WallyWorld later in the day. I was pissed because it was about 10 bucks cheaper than the Cyberhome model but now I'm glad I didn't get it based on your report. Actually, I can't remember if it was the Apex model that was cheaper or a similar model. The fact is, WallyWorld had one for under $40.00 and it cost less than the one I bought.

Thanks for the reply. I'm looking for a cheap one for the kids room. I may just take the Apex back to Wally and get the one at Target. Do you remember the model number of the Cyberhome model?

Thanks.

Did you try pressing the number 1 key?

The Norcent unit ($40-$50) works with DVD's burned with the current versions of tytools.

Not off the top of my head. I've got the box at home so I'll post it when I get home tonight. You can't miss it, though. It's the smallest model they have on display. They also had a Memorex model that was slightly larger for $79 and it stood vertically, sort of like a PS2.

That's the model I saw at WallyWorld that was cheaper than the Cyberhome. I just couldn't remember the maker.

The Norcent worked great on MPEG ISO with MPEG II audio. I could not get it to work with DD 5.1 audio.

The CyberHome model I bought at Target was the CH-DVD 320. Not a bad little unit for $50.00 considering it plays DVDs, Audio CDs, JPGs, MP3s and DVD-recordable formats. It has a component video output and is also a progressive scan player!

Thanks for the info. I just grabbed one tonight. Plays everything I tried on it!
