extraction with a SA tivo series 2

I ve learned from being on many forums that the search button is my friend. I use that alot.

ive read and read and read some more, but i havent found anything much for the series 2.
what i have done so far is hook up a USB 200m net adapter.
the tivo accepts it and gives me an ip address. i can ping it from my pc also.
i want to extract the movies but still dont know how to do that on this series 2. (ver 4)
Tera term doesnt recognize it(connection failed) so tytool doesnt either.
I read somewhere here that i have to remove the drive first and stick on some hacks before my net adapter will work, is that so? or is there something else i should do.
I have the lifetime service and it all works great and i dont want to mess up the hard drive.

any help would be appreciated.

I've been able to telnet into my TiVo, setup Tyserver and tivoweb-tcl. There are still some issues I am having however, and as I just got the above working last night I still need to hunt down some more info.

Use NutKase's guide (on page 15 I believe) along with needo's guide which is at http://www.superhero.org/tivo/. But read the whole thread of course.
