series 2 hack ?

Please excuse my ingorance if these questions have been answered already. I have been out of the country for several months in t he middle east. I have a series one tivo that i have modded and upgraded to 3.1. etc. I can pick up a phillips series 2 for about 75 dollars and i thought this was a pretty good deal.

my question is if i get the series 2 tivo and I subscribe it with Direct Tv. can it be modded so I dont have to subscribe with tivo or will direct tv bill me for the tivo service as well since the authorization is also tier based?

Again Please excuse me if these questions have been already answered, I have serached the threads and I am still unclear.

yes, the s2 units can be hacked to get bash and such. yes, as of 3.X software revisions, dtv controls the PVR authorization for the tivo. as such, the fixsub script does exactly what it was designed to do - ensure privacy and help prevent upgrades, thats it.
