View Full Version : Is it really this easy?

Can some please let me know if they way I am doing this extraction to burn process is the best size vs. quality vs. speed?
My goal is to extract and burn the entire collections of both the Simpsons and Seinfeld.
I can't believe that it is this easy.
1. I extract my streams using TyToolv8. I use multiplex mode, set the audio to #6 DVD - 48@224 and then I GET the stream straight to MPG. Am I waisting space with this quality of audio?
2. I use MPEG2VCR to cut out commercials
3. I use DVD Patcher to fix the header so it doesn't double in size according the Ulead Movie Factory.
4. I create the menus and VIDEO_TS using Ulead MF.
5. I burn the disc using Nero.
I am sure there is a better way to do it, but this sure seems easy.
Can anyone let me know if I am sacrificing quailty or if I should change my settings at all.
Again, I just want to have permanent high quality copies of Simpsons and Seinfeld.
Thanks!

Are you recording with a SA Tivo or a DTivo?

Sorry, HDVR2.
AFAIK a HDVR2 is a Hughes Directv powered by Tivo Series 2 unit. Your audio is 48@192 so why you want to transcode to 48@224? it makes more sense to not transcode audio or go to Dolby 48@384, because there are players/surrond systems/... that can handle the dolby audio better, the audio size will be around twice the normal audio.
Movie Factory is what I used, now I use DVDlab, I don't need to patch the mpg in any way to make it work with it and you can create better menus, chapters, navigation with DVDlab than MF2.

you could use tytool and not have to worry about improper remixing of your source. AFAIK, tytool doesn't support more than 2 channels as there is a problem with timing burps.

I have no idea why I would transcode the audio, that is why I was asking.
Thanks for the tip. I downloaded DVDLab and will give it a shot. MF doesn't give me much room to manipulate menus.

DVDLab is not 100% compatible with ty-sourced MPEG2, correct? Granted, it may have changed in the past day or so.
In DVDlab you only need to use the "alternative" multiplexer engine and you will have much sucess with it, only bad mpg that when demux/remux show audio sync problems, but most will work. Of course you need to install 1.1 then 1.3beta5 and frame-index your movie if you use TyTool to cut your ty before creating mpg.

The latest versions of TyTool work fine with Dolby Digital 5.1 audio with no synch issues.

Bato, how do I change the multiplex settings to Relax? I can't find the menu to do this. You metioned in another thread that it was located under the compile menu but I can't find that. I can find the compile window, but it doesn't give me any options to change.
I am using version 1.1.
I don't want to get too fancy, I just want to use DVDLab to create the menus and then output to VIDEO_TS and burn with Nero.
I used DVDLab to Demux.
TIA!

Ignore that Bato. I just realized I needed to upgrade to 1.3 to get that functionality. I now have 1.3b5 and am relaxing away!

There was a problem with some inconsistencies of packet size in AC3. Has jdiner solved this?
doesnt mpegvcr re-encode the mpeg? doesnt that take a while?

Nope!
If you tell it to it will, but not by default.
