I have read and read for hours now on howto monte this. are there any complete guides? also should i just wait till the 3.1.b image is out to monte?

Look in the monte sticky thread for details on performing the two-card monte hack. There's a file called montestuff.zip that you can download from the twinbrothers ftp site that contains a tutorial and all the files you'll need for performing the monte hack. You'll find a link to it in the very first post in the "Official Series 2 Image Begging Thread."

PRINT THE INSTRUCTIONS AND THE FILE MANIFEST.TXT. The montestuff archive has some of the files you can use skipping quite a few steps from the instructions.

You will need to look over the files in the montestuff.zip file and see how they will be implemented when using the included guide. Some of the files can be used directly instead of creating them from scratch per the guide. There are also apps and utilities that can be run from your hard drive instead of the Linux boot CD called out in the instructions. You may have to modify some of the path names for the files called out. I would recommend extracting the contents of the montestuff.zip file and then move all of the contents of the tivo file to the root directory (i.e. C:\) on your C: drive to make it easier to access the files (i.e. eliminates the requirement to type in long path names).

anyone know where i can get a 3.1.0 whole image? i dont want to take my tivo apart until i have the drive prepared. another question. do you have to have a storage HD to restore the images? or can you restore them from the cd. i tried 3.1u5 from the cd and it sits at compressing files for a hour. i hit crtl+c to break it and it looks like it has completed the restore.
