Since I didn't find much information about using this USB adapter with an HDVR2, here are my findings:
I inserted the USB modules, and then inserted the attached module (found on tivoutils at sourceforge).
I got ping respones in both ways, and have telnet running. Now I only need to check out the performance using MFS-FTP.
I'll probably end up exchanging this adapter for a USB 2.0 one, since it seems they get better results.. Right??

yes, usb 2.0 is definitely better. i get 1.5-2.0mbytes/sec with the usb200m; you probably wouldn't get half of that with a 1.x.

I just picked up this unit as well.. can you tell me how you set up your insmod calls in your rc.initsys.author for use with this module? What other modules do you need to call to get it running?
Thanks

Since I was only using the BASH_ENV method with hackinit, I added the insmod instructions to this file. You have to insert the two usb modules (I don't remember the exact names but if you look in /lib/modules you'll find them) usb-ohci.o and another one. Once you insert these you can go ahead an insert the rtl850 module and then use ifconfig to setup your IP address...

Man.. this is driving me crazy.. so I plugged in the usb100m, copied that file over that you posted (and did a chmod 777 on it).. then manually tried to start the device from the /lib/modules directory, but get probs once I insmod usb-ohci.o

I originally thought it was a prob with my usb100tx, which is why I went and bought the usb100m..
anyone else have any ideas on this?

Did you install the ax8817x.o drivers for the USB 2.0 adapter? If not, the Tivo may only see the adapter as a USB 1.1 device if it sees it all. You should be getting in the neighborhood of 1.5-2MBits/sec with a USB 2.0 adapter.

I have a standalone series 2...I was told that I didn't need to do that

Sorry, you didn't mention anything about it being a SA Tivo. The original post was about a Series 2 DTivo. You are correct, you don't need to install the drivers. However, I have no idea what USB adapters work with a S2 standalone right out of the box. I know that 9th Tee has USB adapters that will work with them but I think they're only USB 1.1 models.

I bought a USB100M this weekend and it is not working at all.
I get a green light in the adaptor but the device is not recognised upon boot.

naw.. didn't get it working.. I couldn't be bothered.. I just really want to be able to record shows - and gave up on the hassel of getting all the other junk running.

thanks for the link sleeper .. i had read that thread unfortunatly the link on that thread is no longer working :( anyhow i bought a usb200M and it works fine...
i just put sleepers tivoscripts on another tivo and the ip settings did not hold .. when i hit ifconfig the settings are all wrong .. i changed it manually but that doesn't seem to hold ... is there a way to change them permanently so that when i reboot the changes hold ...
