The sharp responses of some of the senior members on the forums may be a bit disconcerting to some of us newbs, however, I found out they’re right about learning how the hacks work and not just “following the directions”. I crashed my drives several times attempting the hacks outlined here. This led me to the understanding that I had to learn some linux and what each hack was actually doing to the system. Once I understood the logic behind the commands it made it much easier to troubleshoot. I know have MFS_FTP, tivoweb, tytools extraction, and several other hacks running on my two series one SA’s and single series 2 Dtivo. Thanks to all the members for their help.
Finally, a request. I’ve purchased several Linux books that have provided me some rudimentary knowledge but each had it’s drawbacks. At $30 to $40 a pop it’s getting expensive. I’m very strong in DOS and I’m looking for a recommendation on a linux book that may help me become more proficient.
BTW: I’m installing linux on my spare computer this weekend.
