View Full Version : Reset Loop after kernel replacement

Wondering if someone could shed some light on something for me.

I have a HDVR2 unit and have performed the mfsrestore onto another drive of which boots fine after the restore.

After I perform the kernel replacement as per Cobelli's BASH_ENV docs and following it down to the character (except for hdax/y) the system gets stuck in a loop at the "Welcome. Powering up..." screen. Any idea what I should be looking for???

I've also tried this with the original tivo drive; same results. The only think I can see differently when comparing to the documentation is my current software rev. is 3.1.1b-02-2-151 and it's IRD Model: HDVR3, but the actual model is HDVR2.

THANKS MUCH IN ADVANCE!

For the record I am having the exact same problem. I have re-started the process 3x now, and isolated it to the replacing of the kernel also.

as posted in many other places, the steps cobelli copied for his guide are only accurate for the exact setup described. 3.1.1b is not the same thing as 3.1.0. the only reason the kernel swap works between 3.1.0 and 3.1.u5 is that they are identical except for the initrd stored in the kernel image (and swapping the kernel image via dd only gives you the exploitable initrd, thats it). that swap won't work with 3.1.1b, because the initrd will delete all kinds of files, since the signatures won't match.

ok that makes alot of sense to me now.

does anyone have a doc'd proceedure on this type of hack? or a copy of the initrd?
