Ok, I had my tivo working perfect. So I decided to try some extracting by adding kmem. Added "kmem 800b23b4 00001021" to hackinit and did the "chmod 777 kmem". Rebooted the tivo and it would not get past the "few more seconds" screen. I may have jumped the gun being a newbie and all...but I decided to start completely over from "backup" in cobelli's guide. Everything went well until I got to "bootpage -p /dev/hdc". That is when it spit out "root=/dev/hda7 BASH_ENV=`mount$IFS-n$IFS/dev/nda16$IFS/mnt;echo$IFS/mnt/hacks`"(without the " marks). I know there's nothing wrong with the tivo itself, because I put my "OTIVO" back in and it booted right up. Is there a simple way to get back up and running?

Did you remember to chmod the hackinit file after making the changes? If you manually edited the hackinit file on your PC and then transferred it over to your DTivo you need to make it executable every time you send over a new hackinit file.
