Hi,

I resurrected my TiVo today after a hard drive crashed. I have also added a turbonet card. I'll explain the rough sequence of my work, and maybe someone can help me. I have a DSR6000

1) Restored backup & booted TiVo (recognized new HD size) with 2.0 image
2) Made changes to rc.sysinit to enable serial port and start telnet (only on partition 7, partition 4 didn't exist yet), installed hacks on partition 9 and created .profile.
3) Booted TiVo, upgraded to 3.1
4) Succesfully pinged TiVo, no telnet
5) Placed drive back into PC and added changes to partition 4 (I made sure to "umount" the drive and "exit").
6) Booted TiVo, ping but no telnet
7) Put drive back into PC. All the changes I made to partition 4 were gone!

I've gone through the last 2 steps twice now. The changes on partition 7 & 9 seem to stick. Also, when I first boot up TiVo, it seems to reboot after about 15 seconds. Anyway have advice? Thanks for your help.

Wow, that was fast. Thanks! I searched for the killinit thing, and I found this: http://www.dealdatabase.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=22503&highlight=killinitrd . Should I follow those instructions, i.e., fun kill_init, boot the tivo, put TiVo drive back into my PC, make the changes to rc.sysinit & .login, then put the drives back in?

Also, should I set some flag that looks like "softwareupdate=false" to prevent my hacks from being being lost due to a software upgrade? Thanks again.
