anyone have any info on hi def tv tivos? specs and such? My tivo seems to be on its way out, and if I replace it I would like to just upgrade to something that records HD as well. Are there any other options besides tivo that people have had experiences with? My tivo lasted 3 years, is that good? bad? How long have others had theirs last?

3 years is pretty good. hdtivos are a ways out at this point, so if its actually dying, pick up a new unit. the dtivos are pretty cheap (series 2 dtivos), and the stand alone units are holding up quite well.

Kinda sad how modern electronics these days have such short lifespans.
That aside though...IIRC, the ETA for HDTivos is somewhere in march 2004. I believe they are already field testing the beta units. I just hope that tivo doesn't get smart with the HDTivos in terms of their little DRM protections... HDTV directv streams will be nice to extract :D

makes it a little easier to decide...gonna try weakness.com on monday and see if I can get it repaired, if not, guess i'll get a new one. Really cheeses me that I have to pay the 300 $ again, guess that what I get for being a loyal customer:mad:
the only problem i've had with tivo's is the hard drive, although the picture quality is looking kind of crappy right now.
what symptoms is your tivo displaying that leads you to believe that it is on its way out?
I bet it is the hd that is causing all the problems

they will fix any non HD related issue for 99 $! good deal, now I dont have to get bent over paying the 300 again for service. I was looking real hard at the dvdburners with the 80 gig hd....but its the tivo service season passes etc that have me hooked! I swapped out my HD, as I upgraded awhile ago, and the problem is still there. Flashing and the top of the picture looking all B&W. I want to thank everyone for their help!
