I am trying to follow Cobellis guide for my series 2 dtivo. when i type in cp-R /cdrom/* /mnt/c/disk2 i keep geting command not found.
I am trying to redo a drive that was done for me and ended up not working after a few weeks.
what am i doing wrong? I am using the cd that i made with the files burned on it. not the iso cdr. also i got a meassage that said no medium found when i tried to mount the cdrom.

There should be a space between the "cp" and the "-R" which is why you're getting the error.

oh. ok.
is there anything i should do to prep this 120 gig before running this guide? should i stick it in my pc and format it to a NTSF partition? I have win XP on this pc so NTSF is my only option for now. my other pc is a win 98 system.

well freakit I am a complete newbie but read alot before I even registered. From my understing you have to have a FAT32 partition to back up. Get like partition magic and make a small 2gb and format to FAT32. Not sure if that would work. I would just grab the 98 hd and format it with xp to FAT32.

i'm sorry. thats not my question. i should of been more clear. I have a win98 pc i'm doing the hacks with. my question is do i have to format a used HDD to put the hacks on?
I have a 120 gig that was hacked by someone else for my tivo. It no longer works and i was told it was a corrupt file that caused my trouble. so i was able to extract my OG HDD. no i am in the process of putting all the files on the used 120 gig.
so should i format this drive or will the process of applying th hacks wipe it clean? If i should format it, then should i do it in my win98 pc so i can make it a FAT32 drive, or XP and make it a NTSF?

You do not need to format a drive before restoring a Tivo image to it. This is done automatically during the image restoration. Anything currently on the drive will get wiped during the restoration process.
