Dual tuner recording LIve tv question

Real Noob question

Ok I have monte working on the S2 Direct Tivo (don't know if this matters or not)

Question? With two tuners I thought that Tivo would record the last two channels that I was watching (as long as it is not recording on another channel).

example
watching channel 2 and channel 3 (should be recording both even without pushing record). If I change to channel 4 from channel 3 then both 3 and 4 should be recording and 2 should drop out of recording. Is this correct?

This is not the case for me. It records the channel I am watching and another set channel (I find out what channel this Is by pressing LIVE TV). How can I set this LIVE TV station without pushing the RECORD button? Can I set up Tivo so it acts like my example above? I want to be able to flip back a forth between channels and use (rewind slow ...) features without actually recording the stations to the playlist.

Any guidence would be appreciated.

The DTivo will buffer the two channels that the tuners are currently tuned to. When you switch channels, the channel you were previously watching is no longer being buffered and the new channel starts getting recorded to the buffer. The background channel that the other tuner is set to is unaffected.

You can easily toggle between the two channels by pressing the down cursor button on the remote. If the channel banner is being displayed, hit the down cursor to select the other tuner in the option list on the right side of the display. The channel info for the other tuner is diplayed in the banner. To select the other tuner just press the Select button. To change the channel on either tuner, simply select the tuner and change the channel.
