I have ethernet card in my computer that is a 3Com EtherLink XL PCI TPO NIC (3C900B-TPO) I use it when running Road Runner...will I need to download drivers to be able to communicate to my tivo via ethernet? if so, does anyone know which ones I will need and how It will need to configured?
Thanks

No, once drivers are installed on your computer, the device will work. If you want to communicate with your Tivo, make sure you have the drivers also installed (on the Tivo).

You'll have to change some network settings to allow the two to talk to each other. Using a router is the easiest since you won't have to unplug the cord everytime you want to go from RR to Tivo. Also if you want to go direct instead of through a hub or router or switch, you'll have to have a special cord also known as a crossover cable. HTH.

hello again,

fancy meeting you here again, how would I get the drivers I am using on my computer transfered onto the tivo HD? and where would I find these driver on my computer? also, If I am not going to do video editing at first...do I really need to mess with the ethernet? I dont have hub or special cable...maybe I should just stick with serial port?

Yea, the serial port isn't too bad unless you want to start transferring over huge files back to your computer.

I'm not too sure what Tivo you have, but here's an example. I have a DVR39 by RCA and I have to plug a USB ethernet device in. The device will not be recognized till you tell the Tivo upon boot to load these files. After the drivers are loaded, the ethernet will be activated.

I've only researched DTivo 2s so I'm not sure what is different amongst SAs and D1s. :)

Pkpss that is real helpful. Everything I have read so far, and I have read alot, seemed to say that the DVR39 could not use a usb ethernet adapter. Now that I know it can be done I will be reading the How-to's more carefully.

Thank you
