Hi:

I used Hinsdale's upgrade guide..... I am a newbie to this stuff.

I have a Phillips 212 first generation Tivo. The original drive had 1.2.1 software. I wanted 3.0. So I downloaded a 112 - 3.0 image and put it on a cd-rom.

All seemed to go well. I put the new 80G drive in the Tivo and it shows as 37 hrs at basic and 10 at best quality.

What did I do wrong?

Thanks.

use mfstools 2.0 to expand the drive to the full size it can be.

Thanks, mrblack51. I actually ran mfstools2.0 when I did the upgrade. The last step I did was to run the following line:

mfsadd -x /dev/hdd

The indication was that during the process, the drive was seen as having 80g. However, at the end of the process, it reported that the new capacity was 34hours of recording time.

So today, I started over again and put the drive in the computer to re-run step 8 of Hinsdale's how-to. However, now, when I run the line:

mfsrestore -s 127 -xzpi /mnt/dos/hdr11230.mfs /dev/hdd

I get a message that the drive is too small (it's an 80g Maxtor)

I tried removing the -s 127 and got the same message.

I must have done something wrong..... I just can't figure out what. I have gone over and over and over the how-to.

Does anyone have any ideas for me?

To close out the thread.....

I am a moron..... the bios on the computer which I was using didn't support hdd's over 32G.

I put the drives in another machine and withing 30 minutes, I had a Tivo with 196 hours at basic.
