Hi all, After reading for nearly 4 hrs. I'm now totally confused. Will someone please answer this question and not flame me for asking? I need it as simple and step by step if someone has the time.

I have a Hughes GXCEBOT ( TIVO-1 ) that I hacked (upgraded drive ) a little over a year ago. It currently has 25Xtreme Ver 2.5 on it. I have the original 40 GB as "A" drive and a 100GB as "B" drive. As you can guess I do not receive locals. I want to correct this, using the simplest method possible. Preferably disconnecting the drives in my PC, plugging in whatever drives from the TIVO I need to, and from what I "think" I've read, upgrade to 2,5,2?

I'm running HU card not P-4, if that makes a difference? I hope to be able to save the recordings that are on the drive ( I have 24 season 2 saved and hope to figure out how to transfer it from TIVO to H/D in PC at a later date, so I can burn to DVD ) or drives, without disturbing them. I do not have room on the PC drives to save or backup recordings at the current time. If i lose recordings it will NOT be the end of the world.

Can someone please help me do this one small upgrade, just to get MSP Locals? I like a couple programs on WB and UPN and would really love to be able to record them. I do not wish to try the "Bash" cable method at this time, if possible.

Thank you,
BD58

PS: If possible, please list the update process for 2.5.2 as simply but detailed enough for someone that can't figure out the damn Linux commands to save me. I thought DOS was hard...

I've put together a tutorial on installing 2.5Xtreme and then upgrading to 2.5.2. You'll find it on page 4 of the How Tos Only sticky thread in the DirecTivo Hacking forum. If you did not have scrambling disabled prior to recording any of the shows you wish to archive then you are out of luck with respect to extraction. There is currently no way to unscramble the videos if they were recorded with scrambling turned on. I have heard rumors that someone is working on a method to unscramble recordings but I haven't sen any progress reports lately to indicate there is any success in this area yet. You should be able to perform the upgrade without disturbing your recordings. The bad news is that you may have issues with your locals even after the upgrade. It's generally best to start with a clean install of 2.5Xtreme and then perform the upgrade prior to allowing the guide data to be acquired by the Tivo.

Thank you for the advice. I have no idea whether "scrambling" was on or off, so i'll assume they are "scrambled". It really isn't a "MUST" that i save them, and since I'm just completing a move to a new house, and still living out of boxes..lol. The main thing I want to accomplish is being able to once again receive local channels on my TIVO. Being able to record the shows I like on WB and UPN will allow me to watch them at my convenience, not theirs.

I am currently running the Original 25Extreme. It was installed with whatever was on the "boot CD" and what it loaded automatically. The only additional thing that was done orignally, was to do the Lifetime Sub.

I want to do this upgrade as simply as is possible. As I said, the main concern is once again seeing the local channels ( Minnesota )

I appreciate you taking the time to help me
