I bought a "pre hacked" hdvr2 awhile back. I have become very interested in lerning all I can about this hobby. I want to attempt to to apply this sript to a new 160 gig hd. My problem is I do not have the original backup. What are my options?

Try www.tivostuff.com. There are complete backup images of the HDVR2 for downloading.

Thanks! Next question, how do I know which one to use?

Easy. Get the one that corresponds to the model and OS version you want. 3.1.1b is the latest for the HDVR2. Note that the HDVR2 is listed as a Philips model when it's actually a Hughes.

Ok, I have everything I need. In reading it seems that I need to restore the original image to a 40 gig hd. Is that true? Can I just restore it to my 160?
Thanks!

Try restoreing to the original 40 gig. Don't use the -x option or the -s option to mfsrestore. It may not fit but try it.

Search for posts on Maxtor MaxBlast and set the drive to the maximum non-LBA48 size. The actual sector size is in more than one of my posts.

Sleeper, My original drive was hacked and it is up and running. I prefer to leave it be for now. Could I restore to any 40 gig hd? I think I can pull one from one of my computers. Just format it fat32?
Thanks!

No, not all 40 gig are exactly 40 gig - some are smaller than others. You must be at least equal to or larger than the original. Try it though. No need to format it. Just do the restore.
