I went out into the crazy black Friday Best Buy lines to purchase some amazingly priced items. Specifically the Maxtor 120 GB 7200 rpm hard drive for $50 AR and a Battery Backup for my Tivo for $5 AR. The problem is this...I didn't have my Best Buy card on me, so they did a lookup of the number and "wrote out" a yellow ticket as my receipt instead of the normal register print outs. I've done tons of rebates from Best Buy and never with one from this yellow written out receipt. Does anyone know if they will honor copies of the hand written receipt as a copy of a receipt. It states the "5878954 BE35OU Backups 350VA UPS" for $24.99 and also states "5168873 L01P120 120GB 8MB ATA133 7200RPM Hard" for $139.99. I would assume that is all I need for proof of purchase but since this is over $100 in rebates I want to make sure.

Thanks for any info

I don't get it -- you don't need a Best Buy card to get the rebates, nor to get a normal receipt. So why didn't they give you a proper receipt?

If you have any doubts, go back with your handwritten receipt and ask for a proper one. But I wouldn't think there'd be a problem, no.

I also went to the Best Buy Black Friday... never again. I was in line for two hours. And I still missed some of the best deals, like that UPS -- they said it was sold out by 6:30am! (And it was supposed to be a two-day item! Argh!)

if its on best buy receipt paper, then it should be honored. if it isnt, and you properly submitted everything, then go to best buy and complain until they give you the money, because it would hten be their fault for giving you a receipt that wasnt usable.

You may want to look at the fine print for the Best Buy $90 rebate. $30 is returned to you via mail-in rebate form. The other $60 is in the form of a Best Buy gift card that can only be used at Best Buy and is not redeemable for cash. I also braved the "black Friday" crowd and when I went to get in the checkout line I realized that the line I saw on the right side of the store that I thought was going to the camera department was the line for the front checkout counters that wound around the entire perimeter of the store. I put the drive back on the shelf and drove straight home, vowing never again to set foot out of my door on "black Friday."

Are you sure the $60 rebate is good on Best Buy In Store items only. I don't see that anywhere on my rebate which the register printed out. Does anyone have a copy of the original ad?

All I know is that you get $60 back in the form of a Best Buy gift card. There may be some way you can use in on line to order merchandise from the BB website but it's only good for Best Buy and noplace else. It's like getting $60 in store credit instead of a refund. Best Buy does this with a lot of their rebates so make sure you read the fine print before getting a rebate item there. It may end up being something you don't want to deal with.
